Whether taking a short-period trip overseas or planning to relocate to a foreign country, temporary international health insurance plans provide medical insurance that will meet individual health requirements. In other words, the plans are appropriate for sudden and unexpected injury or illness while traveling away from the home country on a temporary basis. As the name implies, temporary international health insurance is a type of insurance facility applicable for a limited period of time. This type of insurance cannot be considered as an alternate for annual-renewable (or “permanent”) major medical health insurance.

Temporary international health insurance plans vary from one organization to another. The plans differ in minimum benefit periods and legal registrations. Their services cover business executive travel (single and multi-trip), travel groups, students, diplomats, missionaries, expatriates, and entertainers. Temporary international health insurance plans can be purchased with coverage for the insured’s spouse and dependent children, as well.

Temporary health insurance plans commonly cover expenses related to hospital, intensive care, surgery, outpatient treatment, emergency medical evacuation, accidental death or dismemberment, return of minor children, and repatriation of mortal remains. In addition to international emergency care, the service can sometimes provide trip cancellation and lost luggage insurance coverage – it is best to discuss your needs with a licensed insurance agency.

The Liaison International and the Atlas Series are two popular temporary international health insurance plans available in the United States. The Liaison International (available monthly) is a plan for both US citizens and non-US citizens. It includes two separate rate tables – international travel out the USA (for US citizens and US residents traveling abroad), and international travel that includes the USA (for foreign nationals visiting the USA). The Atlas Series are two plans for temporary travel outside of the home country. One plan is for non-US citizens traveling anyplace outside of their home country, and second plan is “Atlas International”, which is for US citizens traveling outside the USA.

In an atmosphere of ever-growing health care and health insurance costs, group health insurance coverage is becoming critical for many employees. In fact, surveys consistently show that employees value health insurance benefits above all others.

Studies have shown that a solid majority (over 60%) of Americans receive health insurance benefits via group health insurance coverage through their employer (or their spouse’s employer). Of course, from the employee’s point of view, this is the least expensive option for securing health insurance. Nevertheless, whether you are a business owner or employee, what follows is a discussion of some interesting aspects of the group health insurance market.

There are two main reasons that employers offer group health insurance coverage. The first is to attract talented employees. The second reason is related to the first: To reduce employee turnover. It’s not uncommon for employees to become “dependent” on their health insurance. For example, an employee who may otherwise leave their job to become self-employed may not do so because of health reasons. That is, he or she may not be eligible under an individual policy due to a preexisting condition. Preexisting conditions are typically not covered under individual health insurance plans.

The primary difference between individual and group health insurance is that group plans are “guaranteed issue”, while individual plans are not. “Guaranteed issue” means that an insurance company cannot deny coverage due to any preexisting medical conditions.

Some individual health insurance plans are issued to individuals with preexisting conditions, but usually only with what is called an “exclusionary rider.” This “exclusionary rider” will exclude coverage for treatment related to the preexisting condition. It’s interesting to note that in California, insurance companies are not allowed to practice this policy. As you might expect, the result is a much higher rate of declined applications for individuals, since insurance companies choose simply not to issue coverage for individuals with preexisting medical conditions.

For group health insurance coverage, premium cost sharing between employer and employee has pretty much become a common feature in today’s labor market. In the vast majority of cases, insurance companies require employees to pay a minimum of 50% of the premiums, although many choose to pay a higher percentage. In general, the larger the company, the greater the percentage paid by the company. Not all insurance companies require coverage for dependents, although again many businesses elect to offer this coverage as well.

There are tax incentives available to both employer and employee for qualifying group health insurance plans. Employers can typically deduct 100% of the premium costs, while employees can pay their portion of the monthly premiums with pretax dollars. Both practices can result in significant savings over the course of a year.

Lastly, group health insurance coverage is available as either an indemnity (fee-for-service) plan or managed care plan (HMO, PPO, or POS). Indemnity plans are the oldest, as well as the most expensive, type of health insurance. As a result of their high costs, indemnity plans have all but disappeared from the landscape, and been replaced by managed health care plans.

Managed group health insurance plans come in various forms: Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), or Point of Service (POS) plans. The HMO was the first alternative to traditional insurance (indemnity) and became popular for its ability to reduce costs for both employer and employee by creating networks of doctors and hospitals and thereby being able to apply cost saving measures.

The PPO plans have in recent years become the most popular type of group health insurance. PPO’s (as well as POS plans) combine many of the freedoms enjoyed with indemnity plans while still being able to implement many of the cost saving features of an HMO.

The struggle to offer employees affordable group health insurance coverage is an ongoing process for most employers in today’s health insurance market. Part of the process is education, from the standpoint of both the employee and employer. It’s important to understand that retaining affordable and quality group health insurance is vital to both sides of the labor market – employer and employee. Indeed, when done properly, this can be a win-win situation for all concerned.

Are you looking for an affordable health insurance provider? Let me ask you a few questions and see if we can get you on the right track. Are you a student? Are you currently employed? If so, does your employer have health insurance available? If your work does provide health insurance, but you are a new employee and are going through your waiting period, are you looking for a temporary health insurance plan? Are you looking for individual insurance or do you need a family plan?

There are a lot of intangibles involved when you are trying to find an affordable medical insurance policy. These are similar questions that you’ll be asked by an agent when you go to get a quote. They’ll need to be able to narrow down what you’re looking for in order to provide you with the most helpful information and the proper coverage.

Other questions will be “do you have any current illnesses that we should be aware of?” They will have a long list of selections to choose from. Make certain that you are completely honest. Just because you may have a medical condition, such as diabetes, does not automatically disqualify you. The insurance Underwriter will likely review your application and have you either take a physical or at least a few more tests before they make a final decision.

There will be several factors involved in finding an affordable health insurance provider and many questions will be asked of you once you do find something that fits your needs. Patience, persistence and honesty will prevail in your search. I recommend that you start getting free life insurance quotes right away so you can begin comparing plans and rates. Good luck.

Short term health insurance will provide you with medical coverage for a short period of time. This is the type of plan you will need if you plan on taking some time off of work, or if you only want something temporary for the time being. You should be able to get coverage for a period of anywhere from one month to a year, and even then you may be able to renew a plan for longer.

Unlike a lot of other plans, short term health insurance will even allow you to visit a doctor of YOUR choosing! Accidents and unexpected illness can occur at anytime, and thankfully your expenses can be covered with the right plan. Everything from hospital room costs, x-rays, surgery, tests, and medication can be covered.

You may even be able to get dental coverage. It all depends on which short term health insurance company you choose, as they all provide different options. Some states have more medical coverage options than others. Depending on where you live, you may or may not have a lot of choices. Still, you should be able to find something, you just need to take the time to look.

The costs involved with this type of insurance also vary. Many plans are expensive, but not all. Nonetheless, short term health insurance is relatively easier to obtain than most other types of insurance. Even if other insurance companies have turned you down, you should be able to qualify for some form of temporary coverage plan. You need to do a bit of studying to find out what all is available in your state. Be careful when selecting a plan. Don’t rush right into it, but don’t be reluctant, either. Just take your time and compare your options.

What is Short Term Medical Insurance

Short term medical insurance is temporary medical insurance and is designed for people who are in between permanent health plans. Short term medical insurance in the US is available and ideal for those who are unemployed, between jobs, have just finished college and waiting for that perfect job, retired or an alternative to COBRA. There are many health insurance companies that provide this type of medical coverage. This medical insurance plan provides many insurance benefits while keeping the premiums reasonably competitive.

Here are the following people who can apply under the various plans of Short term medical insurance

oThose who are 65 years of age or younger and are not eligible for Medicare. Both the person and their spouse are eligible under the scheme.

oChildren who are aged between 2 – 18 years of age and are dependent are also eligible.

oThose who are full time students and are below 25 years of age

oChildren who are of 19 years and above but are dependent on their parents are also eligible but should apply separately.

Dollar Value Benefits

The benefits are provided per person insured up to 2 million and the deductible amounts can vary from $250, $500, $1000 and $2500. These benefits will accrue to the person after the deductibles are completed. The Short term medical insurance companies normally provide for a 50/50 copay plan (you pay half, your insurer pays half) or an 80/20 plan where the insurance company pays 80% of the cost and you pay 20%. These plans do not cover preventive care, routine medical exams, or pre-existing medical conditions

Since the plans offered under Short term medical insurance in the US are not HMOs or PPOs, the insured can choose any doctor or any preferred network. Short term medical insurance in the US is given for a very short time period, although these policies can normally be renewed after the expiration date. Any condition that occurs during this period is treated as a pre existing condition during the coverage of the renewed insurance policy. Those who are over 64 years of age and wish to get a renewal will not be eligible for a renewal under the Short term medical policy.

Exclusions For Pre Existing Conditions

The maximum coverage limit for the Short term medical insurance is generally 2 million dollars per person. There is no coverage for pre existing conditions, work related conditions and preventive care. These are taken as pre existing conditions under short term medical insurance. These conditions will not be covered by the plan. In the event that such conditions that arise, a supplemental insurance coverage should be considered. . Ask your insurance broker or insurance adviser for your alternatives.

Very simple to apply

Applying for short term medical insurance is very simple. After answering a few simple questions, make the payment, fill out the form and send it to the company. Make sure that the plan you select is available in your state prior to sending the payment. If a person is not fully satisfied with the plan coverage, then the certificate of insurance can be returned within 30 days and the full premium should be refunded less any administration charges.

Save Money

To save money on these plans you can increase your deductible (the amount you pay on a claim before the insurance company pays), or choose a lower copay for example the 50-50 instead of the typical 80-20 plan.

If you are one of those people who are hesitant about purchasing health insurance policies, then it may be more ideal for you to avail of a temporary health insurance that will give you a brief idea of what to expect in most health insurance policies.

Most of the time, people are skeptical when talking about insurance policies. This is because they do not know the kind of coverage that they should be getting and the amount of time that they think they’d need a insurance policy. As such, most people would try other ways just so they can test beforehand if an insurance policy quote is the right thing for them. This may prove to be a tough deal, as the market is a vast place which does not make it easy for everyone to have a few choices. In this regard, maybe it will be more ideal if people would just use a temporary insurance plan.

Usually, a short-term health insurance plan is availed so that people could test of the waters first before actually diving deep into the chasm. This is because health insurance like this will give people the trial that they need to prepare for the longer term policies. Also, since this would actually work for a short time – usually three months to a year – people wouldn’t really be able to feel that they’ve been robbed off of money. Aside from that, most temporary insurance plans allow people to have control over the money that they need to pay for the premiums. There are policies that allow for one-time payment, and there are those that are good for monthly installments.

The good thing about this kind of insurance policy is that people have the option to stop it whenever they want to. We all know that there are unforeseen circumstances that leave us hanging and unable to pay for all the bills and expenses. What would most likely to happen is that people would have debts hanging on their shoulders. With the temporary health insurance plan, however, people wouldn’t be burdened so much by all the demands of the payment. If they have a large chunk of money at the beginning of the insurance, then he/she can just pay for the whole amount. Or if there would come a time that he/she is running out of money, then he/she can just cancel the health insurance plan effective immediately.

If you currently have a gap in your health care coverage, then opting for a temporary medical insurance might work to your advantage. If you’ve just graduated from college and are waiting to be employed, or if you’ve been laid off, or are in a transitory phase, but are unwilling to place yourself and your family in a place where you are unprotected, then having temporary coverage provided by short term health insurance plans may be perfect for your needs.

Shopping for Cheap Medical Insurance

It is easy to find temporary insurance. The first thing one has to do in shopping for a short-term medical insurance is to seek the help of an insurance agent. One can find online for local insurance agents, or refer to the phone directory in finding for an insurance agent. After finding an insurance agent, discuss the type of medical coverage needed, the budget allotted for the insurance package, and the temporary medical needs of the holder. Many agents will give different packages and price ranges for the short term medical insurance, so it is really ideal for a person to get and compare quotes first before purchasing a short term medical plan.

Those who may not want to pay more by hooking up with an insurance agent may do shopping for temporary medical insurance by themselves. However, they should know what type of coverage they should need. They should also be certain if they need medical coverage for emergency medical expenses, or just coverage for regular trips to the doctor. There are a lot of health insurance providers that can provide these various types of insurance plans such as Aetna and Blue Cross. In-state health insurance providers can also give out cheaper yet more comprehensive insurance packages.

Meanwhile, those who have just graduated and still looking for a job, an alternative is to ask schools about their sponsored-temporary health care plan. Most schools give short term insurance to their graduates until they hook up with an employer. This is a great way of getting a short term health care insurance without having to pay for more.

Mid-priced Deductibles

In picking the right temporary medical plan, make sure to go with the right deductible amount. Higher deductible means having to deal with lower rates while lower deductible amounts to higher rates. Always go for a mid-priced deductible since it usually gives the best insurance rates and medical insurance coverage.

If you’re a recent college graduate, or in between jobs, temporary health insurance may be just what you are looking for. As the name suggests, this short term health plan covers from one month up to a full year. And with a very inexpensive price tag, most consumers are thrilled to have finally found a viable health care option. While there are benefits with temporary health insurance, there are a few negative aspects as well.

The temporary health insurance plan in essence, has been developed to secure your security and well-being. Short term plans are not designed for everyday health care; temporary health insurance policies are more of low-cost alternative to the full benefit plans, and were meant as sort of a ÒcrutchÓ in case of serious injury or sudden illness. Although some plans do supply coverage up to a full year, most only offer coverage between one to six months.

A big advantage of the temporary health insurance plan is that you have no preferred care provider. What does this mean? You have the option to go to any doctor you choose. Short term plans also offer fairly extensive therapies and regimens. Some of the services offered are: Hospital care, prescription drugs, follow-up doctor visits, and emergency care.

However, there are numerous fields that are not covered by temporary health insurance. Maternity treatment and care is rarely covered, and doctors visits are seldom included. Preventative care, such as physical screenings and immunizations are also excluded. In addition, pre-existing conditions are not part of short term insurance coverage.

A significant plus for most when researching temporary health insurance has be the extremely low premiums. Also, many plans will let you pay your premiums month to month, or pay annually. However, with the low premiums come higher deductibles. While you may be saving money with the premiums, you could be spending just as much with the deductibles.
